Byrdman ever got..
It was back in 1967 We had moved to Chelmsford Mass in my 8th grade year of school I was such a young pup.. the age of 14 and I thought I was a pretty hot player (has there ever been a 14 year old that didn't think they were pretty cool.. It was the era of the British invasion and I was learning all the British tunes.. AND THEN it happened..
I found I was living up the street from a very nice Chinese guy (I'm guessing he was in his 40's or 50's but to me he looked at least 100 (remember I was 14) and this guy was playing a nylon string guitar (classical I'm guessing) on his carport. I would stand at the end of his driveway just watching him play. I had never seen anyone finger the guitar with both hands.. and I was just mesmerized . well this went on for a few days and finally he called me up into his carport and asked me if I played guitar... I of course told him yes.. and told him I'd like to learn to play with both hands like he did.. I had heard fingerpicking but I had never seen it in real life.. WELL.. He told me to go get my guitar and I did... and I came running back all ready to learn.....
Now Pay careful attention... he told me hold your guitar normally.. make a chord with your left (any chord will do).. THEN.... take your right hand and put your fingers over the strings.. then PULL on the ones you want to make sounds with... Yes dear friends.. that is the end of the lesson... I then ran home and spent the next year figuring that I would never be good enough to play classical music.. So I wrote my own... check out my CD... "the Tudor Duet" the solo... that is the song I wrote because of what that nice man taught me
now.. you go do it too!!!... I'd love to hear what you get out of this lesson...
